Ibrahim Kutluay & adidas Summer Camp 2012

“Basketball is a brotherhood. Join the brotherhood!”

Ibrahim Kutluay & adidas Summer Camp was first held in 2001, to provide an environment for athletes who have studied and trained hard all season in which they can both mentally relax and physically prepare themselves for the upcoming season.

The camp is open to all athletes between the ages of 6 and 16, whether male or female, domestic or international, Ibrahim Kutluay Basketball Academy athlete or not.

Approximately 3,700 athletes from 12 different counrties have participated in the camp in its 11 years and 38 periods of history.

The three fundamental camp periods are designed to fit the individual needs of athletes of all age groups and all basketball levels with the specialized programs prepared by top professional trainers in their fields.

The Try-Outs (assessment and evaluation practices) held on the first day of camp and designed to enable all athletes to practice to the best of their own physical and technical capabilities, hence maximizing their level of improvement, help divide athletes of different age groups and basketball levels into different groups, set realistic goals that better fit the needs of each individual athlete, and allow athletes to practice in groups with similar goals.

Experienced camp trainers with appropriate training and pedagogical formation credentials, under close supervision of experts in the development of young athletes with years of experience, keep a keen eye on the performance and level of improvement, the health and needs of each athlete, and provide them with all the support and motivation they need throughout the camp.

The performance of each athlete is assessed at the end of the camp, and whether or not they have reached the goals that have been set at the beginning of the camp is evaluated. Each athlete is rewarded for each area in which they have improved themselves and each goal they have met. All athletes receive the adidas Camp Package, composed of a cap, a double-sided jersey, a t-shirt, a pair of shorts, a pair of socks, a backpack and a towel at the beginning of the camp, and a participation certificate, a participation medal, a camp badge, a camp manual, and a framed camp picture at the end of the camp.

Ibrahim Kutluay’s Message to Athletes

Dear athletes,

We, once again, prepared an extraordinary camp for you at Ibrahim Kutluay & adidas Summer Camp, which has celebrated its 11th anniversary last year, in the summer of 2012.

We divided the camp periods in two special and three fundamental groups at Ibrahim Kutluay & adidas Summer Camp 2012: Special periods Sanko Camp and Southern Camp, and fundamental periods Junior Camp, Team Camp and Game Camp.

The 2012 camp kicks off with special periods: At Sanko Camp, which was held for the first time last year, we offer a camp period specially designed for Private Sanko Schools students, which is equivalent to Junior Camp. At Southern Camp, which is to be held for the first time this year, we will be offering a period full of surprises, which is specially designed for athletes from southern cities.

At Junior Camp, which comprises the first three periods of the 2012 camp after the special periods, we put together a camp program targeting athletes new to basketball, athletes yet developing their fundamental basketball skills, athletes training to become Sub-Junior team athletes and athletes preparing to play in the Junior League next season.

At Team Camp, our sixth period, we prepared a program in which Junior team athletes or those training to be so can improve their advanced basketball skills, learn the notions of “team” and “team spirit”, and the requirements to be team players.

At Game Camp, which is the last and the longest period, and was introduced three years ago for the first time in Turkey, we will once again present you with a content, as we did in the last two years, which will provide Junior, Cadet and Senior athletes or those training to be so with an extensive game and tournament experience.

We will, once again, host international athletes, celebrity athletes and coaches this year, as we did in the past. I will also be with you as always. I am sure you will not only improve your basketball and yourselves, but you will also make new friends and leave the camp with great memories.

Basketball is a brotherhood. Join the brotherhood!

Love,

Ibrahim Kutluay
UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador

Camp Director’s Message

Dear athletes and parents,

We made significant changes at Ibrahim Kutluay & adidas Summer Camp this year in an effort to set and follow up on our goals much more clearly than ever before. We simplified the structure of the camp, while enriching its content. We designed Junior Camp, of which I am the Director, in such a way that it will help athletes new to basketball, athletes yet improving their game, athletes new to the Sub-Junior category and athletes ready to play in the Junior League next season improve themselves all in on package.

As it is a crucial part of the camp experience that athletes stay in a constant state of sharing and learn from each other how to collaborate in a team as it is that they learn from their coaches how to play basketball, we dissolved all content-related boundaries between groups of the same age. Accordingly, athletes will follow the same program and apply similar practice routines througout all three camp periods designated for Junior Camp. However, our trainers, as they have been every year, will be dividing athletes into groups of similar ages, physical development and basketball levels to avoid strain and possible injuries, and specialize the training program according to the common characteristics of each group. Further, our trainers will closely follow the health and needs of each individual athlete througout the camp, and provide them with all the support and motivation they need to reach their goals.

I am certain that Junior Camp athletes will make new friends during the camp in which they will share the court, their dinner tables, their rooms, in short, their lives with athletes of the same age, and that they will leave the camp with the same smiling faces we have been seeing every year since 2001.

See you at Junior Camp…

Ercument Ulker
Junior Camp Director

Athlete Testimonials

“I went to Junior Camp for the first time when I was 6. I participated in 2 camp periods in my first year and in a total of 5 camp periods in 4 years. I am now 10, and I am still looking forward to the camp this year.”

I went to Junior Camp for the first time when I was 6. I participated in 2 camp periods in my first year and in a total of 5 camp periods in 4 years. I was so happy with the camp in my first year that I asked my parents to extend my stay for another period. I have been looking forward to Junior Camp every summer since then. I made so many new friends all these years, and I learned a lot. Our trainers not only taught us basketball, bur also how to take care of our daily needs. I do not only take care of my own needs now, but help my friends with theirs. I am now 10, and I am still looking forward to the camp this year.

Parent Testimonials

“We think it is utterly important for every child to have such an experience in regards to his / her personal development.”

Participating in Junior Camp, our son, Murat, and daughter, Idil, had such a social experience that we are sure they learned so many important lessons in this short period of time that they will refer to for the rest of their lives. We think it is utterly important for every child to have such an experience in regards to his / her personal development. Looking at the camp from a strictly basketball-related point-of-view, we believe basketball, with which they were already madly in love, was the greatest opportunity they were given in their quest to become a part of something bigger than themselves. We thank all the trainers for the close attention they paid to our children, almost as if they were their own children or siblings, and to have filled our shoes while we were away.

“I think my son’s social circle expanded in the right direction thanks to this camp. Thank you MVP…”

My 11 year-old son, Oguz, was almost a year older when he got back from the camp. He was so happy and energetic when he got back, we, too, were caught up in his energy. He just would not stop talking about his trainers, who apparently treated him as if he was their own brother. There is sun, sand and sea everywhere in Turkey, but on top of all that, there is basketball in this camp. Oguz made new friends with kids his age from other teams. I think my son’s social circle expanded in the right direction thanks to this camp. Thank you MVP…

Camp Director’s Message

Dear athletes,

As you will experience from first hand this summer, we redefined Team Camp as part of a serious restructuring operation we performed on the structure of Ibrahim Kutluay & adidas Summer Camp. Accordingly, we redesigned Team Camp, the content of which I have personally planned, to better fit the needs of athletes who are developing advanced basketball skills, who are stepping up to the Junior team and who will be playing in the Juniors’ League, and of groups who wish to be made into a “team”.

Athletes who participate in Team Camp this summer are sure to improve themselves and their skills as a team, while concurrently having fun and making new friends. Athletes who participate in the camp individually will be grouped together with other individual participants, while every effort will be made to ensure participating teams to practice as teams. Individual participants will walk out of the camp having taken serious steps towards being “team players”, while groups will do the same towards being a “team”. Our trainers will, once again, be in a step’s distance from the athletes and will do everything within their power to make sure the camp experience is utmost beneficial and utterly unique for all athletes.

I, and all our trainers, wish to see you as a part of the “team” at Team Camp this summer…

Camp Director’s Message

Dear athletes,

We are continuing Game Camp without any changes this season as it has proven to us through the great success it has achieved and the attention it has received since we launched it three years ago, introducing such a camp for the first time in Turkey.

We, once again, prepared an intense and challenging, yet exciting and fun camp program this year so that you can get the most realistic taste of the pre-season preparation and tournament experience. You will be starting the day with shooting and pre-tactics practices, hold team meetings with your coaches throughout the day, watching the previous night’s game, evaluating your performance as an individual and as a team, watching and analyzing your opponents, working on your tactics at evening practice and preparing for that night’s game. Our experienced trainers with training and pedagogical formation credentials will be at your side throughout the camp, attend to your personal and athletic needs, keep your concentration and motivation at their peak, and do everything possible for you to make the most of the camp.

You will get to see your errors and short-comings, work hard on them and continuously improve yourself during the 10 days of camp, and you will not believe the level of improvement you will achieve at the end of it.

We, the Game Camp team, wish to see you among us to share this great excitement.

Athlete Testimonials

“I participated in Game Camp for the 2nd time last year and improved myself and my game more than I could ever imagine.”

I am barely at the age to play in the Cadets category, yet I play both in the Cadet and the Senior team of our club. I participated in Game Camp for the 2nd time last year and improved myself and my game more than I could ever imagine. More importantly, I saw for myself my weaknesses and how much more I had to work on them. Thanks to Game Camp, I became a more serious athlete. I got drafted to the national team. I absolutely want to participate in Game Camp again this year.

Parent Testimonials

“I believe Ibrahim Kutluay & adidas Summer Camp has played an important role in both the personal and the athletic development of my son.”

Can participated in Junior Camp individually, in Team Camp with his teammates, and Game Camp for the first time this year. I believe Ibrahim Kutluay & adidas Summer Camp has played an important role in both the personal and the athletic development of my son. Thanks to the improvement he has achieved at Game Camp, Can took the responsibility to play in the Cadet team of his club this year. Despite his busy schedule, he managed to keep a balance between school and basketball. I believe the discipline he gained at the camp has proven its value both in his athletic and his academic life.

My son, Metehan Erten, plays basketball at Karsiyaka Sports Club. He has been participating in this camp for the last five years and he is very happy. After every camp, we can observe the positive changes in his basketball and personality and the improvement in his self-sufficiency, and we can clearly see that the camp gives him a different kind of self-confidence. Parent Testimonials

“Our son has been participating in Ibrahim Kutluay & adidas Summer Camp for the last 6 years. I and my husband go with him, and make it a vacation.”

Our son has been participating in Ibrahim Kutluay & adidas Summer Camp for the last 6 years. I and my husband go with him, and make it a vacation. The first year we sent him off to the camp, we were a bit worried because it would be his first time away from us and we were not very knowledgeable about the camp environment. We had two major expectations: Our son’s happiness at the camp and the camp’s contribution to our son’s game and personality. As we had the chance to go and see it for ourselves, I think it is fair to say that both our expectations were more than met. Thanks to the trainers who treated our son as if he were their own brother or son and the secure camp environment Yucelen Hotel has provided, our son has adapted to this environment formerly unknown to him very quickly and asked to extend and repeat his stay. Because of the trust we have gained for the training, the friendly environment and the organization throughout the years, we gladly fulfilled his wishes. We are, once again, looking forward to this year’s camp.

“My son, Cenk, has been participating in Ibrahim Kutluay & adidas Summer Camp for the last 5 years, and I have my vacation at the Yucelen Hotel where the camp is held.”

My son, Cenk, has been participating in Ibrahim Kutluay & adidas Summer Camp for the last 5 years, and I have my vacation at the Yucelen Hotel where the camp is held. The kids involve themselves in sports in open air, in the midst of nature, and enjoy the sea. New friendships are built, old friendships are iterated, and I very much enjoy that. I further enjoy the improvement in Cenk’s self-confidence. I can see it more clearly everyday that these are very important steps in his development as an individual to learn to be self-sufficient, to have to take care of himself, and to move in harmony with others. I am very happy with the camp and the hotel; I am planning my vacation to be at the same time and location as my son once again this year.
