Our History

Ibrahim Kutluay Basketball Academy was founded in 2001 by Devrim Kivanc, Ercument Ulker, Ibrahim Kutluay and Murat Ozgul, who all have extensive knowledge and experience in basketball, basketball training, sports management and sportive organizations, with the intent purpose of serving the Turkish youth and the sports community, and adding value to them. The main idea was to pass Ibrahim Kutluay’s knowledge and experience in basketball to next generations.

Ibrahim Kutluay Basketball Academy, which aims to teach basketball to Turkish youth and help them love the game, has started its first summer basketball training program at Irmak Schools, its first summer basketball camp in Bodrum, its first overseas summer basketball camp at McCracken Basketball Camps in the United States, and its first winter basketball training program at Irmak Schools the same year.

In 2002, MVP Sports Club was founded to give the young athletes trained at the Ibrahim Kutluay Basketball Academy the opportunity of gaining game, tournament and league experience, the chance to excel in their sports career, which they would normally be denied at a professional sports club, and the opportunity to be a part of the Turkish basketball community and the National Teams.

In 2003, Junior League, a first in our country, was introduced to provide athletes of Sub-Juniors’ level with the game experience, the understanding of team work, what it takes to be a part of a team, how to cheer for a win and to mourn for a loss within reason, and the preparation and experience athletes under 12 typically lack before they reach Juniors’ level.

In 2004, Ibrahim Kutluay Basketball Academy started its basketball training programs at Pendik High School. The Academy has also become one of the founders and the first members of Basketball Schools’ Association the same year.

In 2006, Basketball Schools’ Association League was kicked off to provide athletes trained at the member basketball schools with the opportunity to gain game, tournament and league experience.

In 2007, U.S. Summer Camps were moved to Sixers Camps, a part of the Philadelphia 76ers franchise, operating under the license of the NBA.

Ibrahim Kutluay Basketball Academy started new basketball training programs at Avcilar Anatolian Technical High School, Private Sezin School and Pendik Commerce & Occupational High School in 2008. Ibrahim Kutluay Basketball Academy Summer Camps joined ICF (International Camping Fellowship) and got accredited for meeting international standards the same year.

In 2009, Academy operations were launched at ITU Ayazaga Campus.

In 2010, the basketball training segments of Sahaya Cik (Get on the Court) with Ibrahim Kutluay, sponsored by Ulker Icim and aired live on NTV Spor every week, were planned and performed. Ibrahim Kutluay Basketball Academy has also contributed to the Istanbul round of the Children of the World cultural exchange program, in which 290 campers and 111 trainers from 112 different countries speaking 76 different languages have participated, through its coaches. Ibrahim Kutluay Basketball Academy Summer Camps joined the Turkish Camping Fellowship and the AOCF (Asia Oceania Camping Fellowship) the same year and once again proved meeting national and international standards. Ibrahim Kutluay was granted the honor of the Goodwill Ambassador title by Unicef, and a cooperation was started on a promotion, resource generation and revenue sharing basis. Ibrahim Kutluay Basketball Academy launched a new program at Suadiye Miltas Sports Complex. Ibrahim Kutluay Basketball Academy was also granted one of the first three “TBF-Approved Basketball School” accreditations, which the Turkish Basketball Federation had just started issuing this year, further proving its training and athlete development activities’ having met or exceeded TBF standards.

In 2011, Ibrahim Kutluay Basketball Academy launched new programs at ISOV – Dinckok Technical and Industrial Occupational High School, Kartal Anatolian High School and Metin Sabanci Special Education and Rehabilitation Center.

Ibrahim Kutluay Basketball Academy has trained 6,000 athletes since its foundation in 2001. 3,500 of these athletes were trained at the winter and summer basketball training programs, and 2,500 at the Summer Camps. Thanks to the great importance the Academy attributes to its athletes’ education, 80 of its athletes have participated in NBA Summer Camps, and 29 athletes were provided with athletic scholarships by American universities and the opportunity to continue their education and basketball careers in the United States.
